Lady Gan was empress of Liu Bei, Empror Zhaolie of Shu Han. Having jade like soft flesh, charming manners and attractive looks, Gan was praised as one of the famous beauties in the period of the Three Kingdoms, highly favored by Liu Bei. When Liu Bei got a one-meter-tall jade figure presented by someone from Henan, he put it on his bed to compare it to Lady Gan’s white complexion. He enjoyed it all day long. Lady Gan told him that in the ancient time, Zihan didin’t regard jade as treasure, and his deed was highly praised. She also asked Liu Bei not to indulge in playthings and lost his lofty aspiration to unite kingdom Wu and Wei. Liu Bei accepted her words, moved away the jade figure and dismissed those favorite women. The countries all praised Empress Gan as a woman of wisdom.
